There’s no question that San Diego is a growth market for craft coffee and third wave café culture. We’ve just released our interactive MAP, and will be updating it monthly. Be sure to check out all the independent specialty coffee cafes in your neighborhood. Below is a photo tour of the latest openings, and a quick list of cafes coming soon.
Cafe Duet.
Located at 6526 El Cajon Boulevard, San Diego, CA 92112, near San Diego State University and Rolando Village, it offers locals a third wave space with lots of warm hospitality and natural light. Cafe Duet serves Temple Coffee Roasters out of Sacramento. Photo Gallery by Julie Rings.
Communal Coffee + Native Poppy.
You may already be familiar with the "Coffee + Flowers" mural facing the corner of Texas Street and University. Communal Coffee and Native Poppy, a shared retail and cafe space, are located at 2335 University Avenue, San Diego, CA 92104. This independent cooperative serves Sightglass Coffee out of San Francisco. If you like a nosh with your espresso, we recommend their chocolate chip cookies. And, of course after you've indulged, bringing home flowers to brighten your home, or the smile of your significant other. Photo Gallery by Jessica Percifield Henry.
The WestBean.
The WestBean, a local San Diego small batch roaster, just opened its second retail location at the new Liberty Public Market in Point Loma. They're slinging espresso, and serving up cold brew on nitro with a smile. Don't have time to sit and sip? Grab one of their nifty cold brew growlers to take home. Be careful, the stuff tastes really amazing, and before you know it, you'll have time traveled into next week. Speaking of time travel, The WestBean will be participating in Cold Brew City 2016, on Saturday, June 25. Early bird pricing on tickets available through May 30.
Moniker General.
Located across from the Liberty Public Market and Stone Brewing at Liberty Station in Point Loma, this latest coffee refuge offers a sip while you shop experience without giving up ample traditional coffee house space to commune, recharge, or set up your mobile office. Who doesn't want a mobile office with craft coffee by Copa Vida and craft beer by 32 North Brewing Co.? Done. And if you like the custom leather sofa you've been surfing spreadsheets on, (or Tinder, we don't judge) you can take it home. Of course, we recommend paying first.
